Who is Mevlana?
"Come, come again, whoever you are, come!
Heathen, fire worshipper or idolatrous, come!
Come even if you broke your penitence a hundred times,
Ours is the portal of hope, come as you are."

Mevlana who is also known as Rumi, was a philosopher and mystic of Islam, but not a Muslim of the orthodox type. His doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. To him and to his disciples all religions are more or less truth. Looking with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike, his peaceful and tolerant teaching has appealed to men of all sects and creeds.

Mevlana was born on 30 September 1207 in Balkh in present day Afghanistan. He died on 17 December 1273 in Konya in present day Turkey. He was laid to rest beside his father and over his remains a splendid shrine was erected. The 13th century Mevlana Mausoleum with its mosque, dance hall, dervish living quarters, school and tombs of some leaders of the Mevlevi Order continues to this day to draw pilgrims from all parts of the Muslim and non-Muslim world.

Mevlana Mausoleum

The mausoleum continues to draw pilgrims from all parts of the Muslim and non-Muslim world, mainly because, although Mevlana was a philosopher and mystic of Islam, he was not a Muslim of the orthodox type. While he was a devout Muslim, his doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. To him and to his disciples all religions are more or less truth. Looking with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike, his peaceful and tolerant teaching has appealed to men of all sects and creeds.

Mevlana Mausoleum was made a museum in 1927, four years after the establishment of the Turkish Republic. It is now one of the most visited museums in Turkey, attracting more than two million visitors a year.

A Spirtual evening for Mevlana
İn times by gone, it has been customary for a spirtual evening to start with a similar conversation. First the poem of time or timelessness, or space and spacelessness was recited; domains of mysticisim, tales of great saints recalled in an ecstatic manner and atmosphere, instructions on Mesnevi displayed and talks prolonged till the reed (pipe) started echoing.

Love to thee love... The souls (lives) expressed their gratitudes to their lord. The holy Coran was being regited. Then they prayed or the well being of the dead and living ones as well. Then they praised the Prophet of islam and the reed (pipe) started sounding. It seemed as though Great Mevlana, was adressing beyond centuries, fused with the winds of reeds he was promising life into death.

Die ide: die in this very love.
Those who die into this love become true spirit.
Be silent, be silent, silence is similar to death.
Cry in silende, this means living in the read way
